Your faith has become known (1 Thess. 1:8)

“The word of the Lord

Has sounded forth

From you

Not only in Macedonia

And Achaia,

But in every place.

Your faith in God

Has become known,

So that we have no need

To speak about it.”

Paul said, The word of the Lord (ὁ λόγος τοῦ Κυρίου) has sounded forth (γὰρ ἐξήχηται) from you (ἀφ’ ὑμῶν) not only (οὐ μόνον) in Macedonia (ἐν τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ) and Achaia (καὶ Ἀχαΐᾳ), but in every place (ἀλλ’ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ).  Your faith (ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν) in God (ἡ πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν) has become known (ἐξελήλυθεν), so that we have no need (ὥστε μὴ χρείαν) to speak about it (ἡμᾶς λαλεῖν τι).”  Only this letter to the Thessalonians used this unique word ἐξήχηται, that means to sound forth or sound out.  Paul has great praise for the Thessalonian Christians.  The word of Lord from them has spread not only to northern and southern Greece, but to every place.  Their great faith in God is so well known that Paul did not have to speak about it.  Unlike the pesky Corinthians, Paul really liked the Thessalonians.  Is your Christian faith community known to others?
