You are an example (1 Thess. 1:7)

“You became

An example

To all the believers

In Macedonia

And Achaia.”

ὥστε γενέσθαι ὑμᾶς τύπον πᾶσιν τοῖς πιστεύουσιν ἐν τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ καὶ ἐν τῇ Ἀχαΐᾳ.

Paul said, “You became (ὥστε γενέσθαι ὑμᾶς) an example (τύπον) to all the believers (πᾶσιν τοῖς πιστεύουσιν) in Macedonia (ἐν τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ) and Achaia (καὶ ἐν τῇ Ἀχαΐᾳ).”  Paul indicated that now these Thessalonian Christians in northern Macedonia had become an example or ideal Christian community for the people in the Roman provinces of Macedonia and Achaia, basically northern and southern Greece.  However, northern Greeks always referred to themselves as Macedonians.  Perhaps Paul was writing this from the southern Greek city of Corinth.  Without doubt, the Thessalonians had become an exemplary Christian community.  Thus, Paul wrote his first and oldest existing letter to them.  Is your Christian community an example for other Christian communities?
