“You are rooted
And built up
In Christ.
You have been established
In the faith,
Just as you were taught,
Abounding in thanksgiving.”
Paul said, “You are rooted (ἐρριζωμένοι) and built up (καὶ ἐποικοδομούμενοι) in Christ (ἐν αὐτῷ). You have been established (καὶ βεβαιούμενοι) in the faith (τῇ πίστει), just as you were taught (καθὼς ἐδιδάχθητε), abounding (περισσεύοντες) in thanksgiving (ἐν εὐχαριστίᾳ).” Only the Pauline letters used this word ἐρριζωμένοι, that means to cause to take root, planted, fixed firmly, or established, and the word ἐποικοδομούμενοι, that means to build upon a foundation. Paul explained that the Colossian Christians had been rooted in and built up from Jesus Christ, who was their root and the cause of their growth. They have been firmly established in their Christian faith as they were taught. Thus, they abound and overflow with thanksgiving to God. Do you give thanks to God?
