Remain steadfast (Col. 1:23)

You must continue

Securely established

And steadfast

In the faith.

You cannot shift

From the hope

Of the gospel

That you heard.

This gospel

Has been proclaimed

To every creature

Under heaven.

Became a servant

Of this gospel.”

Paul said, “However, you must continue (εἴ γε ἐπιμένετε) securely established (τεθεμελιωμένοι) and steadfast (καὶ ἑδραῖοι) in the faith (τῇ πίστει).  You cannot shift (καὶ μὴ μετακινούμενοι) from the hope (ἀπὸ τῆς ἐλπίδος) of the gospel (τοῦ εὐαγγελίου) that you heard (οὗ ἠκούσατε).  This gospel has been proclaimed (τοῦ κηρυχθέντος) to every creature (ἐν πάσῃ κτίσει) under heaven (τῇ ὑπὸ τὸν οὐρανόν).  I (ἐγὼ), Paul (Παῦλος), became a servant (διάκονος) of this gospel.”  Only the Pauline letters used this word ἑδραῖοι, that means sitting, steadfast, or firm.  Only this unique word μετακινούμενοι, is found here in Colossians, that means to move away, remove, or dislodge.  Paul turned to the people of Colossae.  He wanted them to continue with their steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.  Their hope was in the gospel of Jesus Christ, since it was going to be proclaimed to the whole earthly world.  Thus, Paul was a servant or minister of this gospel so that he was trying to proclaim it to the whole world.  Are you steadfast in your faith?
