Whether on earth
Or in heaven,
Through the blood
Of his cross.”
Paul said, “Through Christ (καὶ δι’ αὐτοῦ), God reconciled (ἀποκαταλλάξαι) to himself (εἰς αὐτόν) all things (τὰ πάντα), whether on earth (εἴτε τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς) or in heaven (εἴτε τὰ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς), by Christ (δι’ αὐτοῦ) making peace (εἰρηνοποιήσας) through the blood (διὰ τοῦ αἵματος) of his cross (τοῦ σταυροῦ αὐτοῦ).” Only the Pauline letters used this word ἀποκαταλλάξαι, that means to reconcile completely or change from one state of feeling to another. Only this unique word εἰρηνοποιήσας, is found here in Colossians, that means to make peace or reconcile. This hymn to Christ concluded with God reconciling all things to himself, both on earth and in heaven through Jesus Christ. The incarnation of Jesus Christ as the God-man brought a heavenly and earthly reign of peace through the blood of the cross. The cosmic world was put back into its pristine arrangement of salvation for men by Jesus Christ with the spilling of his blood on the cross. God has reconciled former enemies. Jesus Christ had set the divine and human universe straight on its correct course. Do you believe that Jesus Christ set the world straight?
