The helmet of salvation (Eph. 6:17)

“Take the helmet

Of salvation,

And the sword

Of the Spirit,

Which is the word of God.”

καὶ τὴν περικεφαλαίαν τοῦ σωτηρίου δέξασθε, καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν τοῦ Πνεύματος, ὅ ἐστιν ῥῆμα Θεοῦ,

Paul said, “Take (δέξασθε) the helmet (καὶ τὴν περικεφαλαίαν) of salvation (τοῦ σωτηρίου), and the sword (καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν) of the Spirit (τοῦ Πνεύματος), which is the word of God (ὅ ἐστιν ῥῆμα Θεοῦ).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word περικεφαλαίαν, that means helmet.  Paul continued with his military comparison.  The Christian Ephesians were to put on their salvation helmet and use the sword of the Spirit.  In case there was any confusion, Paul indicated that what they needed was the word of God.  God was on their side.  They just had to be ready for this spiritual battle, since the Holy Spirit was with them as a sword to fight with.  How do you prepare for spiritual battles?
