Be renewed! (Eph. 4:23)

“Be renewed

In the spirit

Of your mind!”

ἀνανεοῦσθαι δὲ τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ νοὸς ὑμῶν,

Paul said, “Be renewed (ἀνανεοῦσθαι) in the spirit (δὲ τῷ πνεύματι) of your mind (τοῦ νοὸς ὑμῶν)!”  Only this Ephesian letter uniquely used this word ἀνανεοῦσθαι, that means to renew oneself.  Paul wanted the Christians in Ephesus to renew themselves in their spirit and mind.  He wanted them to have the right attitude towards renewing their life style so that it was not like their old corrupt lifestyle.  Paul did not use the classic Greek word “metanoia”, turn your life around, that were used in the gospels to describe the teachings of John the Baptist and Jesus.  Instead, he used this unique Greek word that only appears here among all the Greek canonical New Testament writings.  Do you try to renew yourself?
