They have abandoned themselves
Greedy to practice
Every kind of impurity.”
οἵτινες ἀπηλγηκότες ἑαυτοὺς παρέδωκαν τῇ ἀσελγείᾳ εἰς ἐργασίαν ἀκαθαρσίας πάσης ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ.
Paul said, “The gentiles have lost all sensitivity (οἵτινες ἀπηλγηκότες). They have abandoned themselves (ἑαυτοὺς παρέδωκαν) to licentiousness or sensuality (τῇ ἀσελγείᾳ), greedy (ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ) to practice every kind of impurity (εἰς ἐργασίαν ἀκαθαρσίας πάσης).” Only this Ephesian letter uniquely used the word ἀπηλγηκότες, that means to cease to feel pain for, cease to care, callous, or reckless. Paul was clear. The gentiles had lost all sensitivity to others. They were not empathetic to anyone. Instead, they abandoned themselves to their own sensuality. They were greedy to practice all kinds of impurity. Based on their own callous hard hearts, they did not care about anyone else, only their own sensual satisfaction. Thus, this led to a careless licentiousness in their lives with no holds barred. Do you only care about your own sensual satisfaction?
