You cannot boast (Eph. 2:9)

“This is not

The result of works,

So that no one

May boast.”

οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων, ἵνα μή τις καυχήσηται.

Paul said, “This is not the result of works (οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων), so that no one may boast (ἵνα μή τις καυχήσηται).”  Only the Pauline letters used this word καυχήσηται, that means to boast, glory, or be proud.  Paul continued to explain that all this took place not because of anything that they did.  They could not boast about this.  This was not something that they should be proud of.  God had graced them.  They had not earned this grace or gift because of something that they did.  Belief in Jesus Christ was a gift.  Do you believe that belief in Jesus Christ is a graced gift?
