Faith and love (Gal. 5:6)

“For in Christ Jesus,

Neither circumcision

Nor uncircumcision

Counts for anything.

The only thing

That counts for anything

Is faith

Working through love.”

ἐν γὰρ Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ οὔτε περιτομή τι ἰσχύει οὔτε ἀκροβυστία, ἀλλὰ πίστις δι’ ἀγάπης ἐνεργουμένη.

Paul said, “For in Christ Jesus (ἐν γὰρ Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ), neither circumcision (οὔτε περιτομή) nor uncircumcision (οὔτε ἀκροβυστία) counts for anything (τι ἰσχύει).  The only thing that counts for anything is faith (ἀλλὰ πίστις) working through love (δι’ ἀγάπης ἐνεργουμένη).”  Paul explained that there was no power in circumcision or uncircumcision.  The only thing with any power or value was an active working loving faith.  Faith without a lived working love was not sufficient.  Generosity and service were the outgrowth of faith.  Without faith and an active love, circumcision or not, your life was empty and vain.  Circumcision is irrelevant.  Faith lived in love is what counts.  Do you live a life of faith with love?
