The law and faith (Gal. 3:23)

“Now before faith came,

We were confined

Under the law

Until faith

Would be revealed.”

Paul said, “Now before faith came (Πρὸ τοῦ δὲ ἐλθεῖν τὴν πίστιν), we were confined (ἐφρουρούμεθα) and locked up (συνκλειόμενοι) under the law (ὑπὸ νόμον) until faith would be (εἰς τὴν μέλλουσαν πίστιν) revealed (ἀποκαλυφθῆναι).”  Paul explained that before faith in Jesus Christ came, all of us were confined or imprisoned under the Mosaic law.  All the Judaic laws of the Torah kept the Israelites in temporary or protective imprisoned custody.  They were not to imitate the devious ways of the gentiles.  Thus, the law preceded faith.  However, faith was revealed in Jesus Christ.  Do you see laws as confining you?
