The promise of the Spirit (Gal. 3:14)

“In Christ Jesus,

The blessing of Abraham

Might come

To the gentiles,

So that we might receive

The promise of the Spirit

Through faith.”

Paul said that in Christ Jesus (ἐν Ἰησοῦ Χριστῷ), the blessing of Abraham (ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ) might come (γένηται) to the gentiles (ἵνα εἰς τὰ ἔθνη), so that we might receive (λάβωμεν) the promise (ἵνα τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν) of the Spirit (τοῦ Πνεύματος) through faith (διὰ τῆς πίστεως).  Paul next showed that the blessing of Abraham might come to the gentiles or the non-Jewish people because of Jesus Christ.  This was the blessing mentioned in Genesis, chapter 28:4.  “May he give to you the blessing of Abraham, and to you and your offspring with you, so that you may take possession of the land where you now live as an alien, the land that God gave to Abraham.”  Isaac gave Jacob the blessing of Abraham as Jacob went to Haran to visit Laban.  Thus, the early Christians received the blessings of Abraham from the promise of the Holy Spirit.  Their faith made them spiritual Israelites.  They were able to receive the promise of the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ.  The Galatians had received their faith in Jesus Christ not from any works of the Mosaic law, but by the Holy Spirit.  Do you share in the blessings of Abraham?
