The works of the law (Gal. 3:2)

“Let me ask you only this!

Did you receive

The Spirit

By doing

The works of the law,

Or by believing

What you heard?”

τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφ’ ὑμῶν, ἐξ ἔργων νόμου τὸ Πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;

Paul said, “Let me ask you only this (τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφ’ ὑμῶν)!  Did you receive the Spirit (τὸ Πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε) by doing the works of the law (ἐξ ἔργων νόμου), or by believing what you heard (ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως)?”  Paul had another question for these Galatians.  He wanted to know about when they had received the Holy Spirit.  Did they get the Holy Spirit by doing the works of the law?  Or did they get the Holy Spirit when they believed in Jesus Christ?  When they believed in Jesus Christ, they were baptized and got the anointing or laying on of hands to receive the Holy Spirt as outlined in Acts, chapter 8 and chapter 15.  The works of the Mosaic law did not bring the Holy Spirit.  There was no need to follow any of the requirements of the Torah because they had nothing to do with the Holy Spirit.  Paul was clear with this question.  He knew the answer.  How did you get the Holy Spirit?
