And not gentile sinners.”
Ἡμεῖς φύσει Ἰουδαῖοι καὶ οὐκ ἐξ ἐθνῶν ἁμαρτωλοί,
Paul said, “We ourselves are Jews by birth (Ἡμεῖς φύσει Ἰουδαῖοι) and not gentile sinners (καὶ οὐκ ἐξ ἐθνῶν ἁμαρτωλοί).” Only the Pauline letters used this word φύσει, that means by nature, origin, or birth. Paul then added sarcastically that both he and Peter were Jews by birth. There was no dispute about that. They were not the gentile sinners who worshipped pagan idols and did not follow the Torah. They were Jewish no matter what happened to them. They were not gentiles even if they lived liked gentiles. They would always be Jewish. Once a Jew, always a Jew.
