We would like to go beyond you (2 Cor. 10:16)

“Thus,

We may preach

The good news gospel

In lands beyond you,

Without boasting

Of work

Already done

In someone else’s

Sphere of action.”

εἰς τὰ ὑπερέκεινα ὑμῶν εὐαγγελίσασθαι, οὐκ ἐν ἀλλοτρίῳ κανόνι εἰς τὰ ἕτοιμα καυχήσασθαι.

Paul said that we may preach the good news gospel (εὐαγγελίσασθαι) in lands beyond you (εἰς τὰ ὑπερέκεινα ὑμῶν), without boasting of the work already done in someone else’s sphere of action (οὐκ ἐν ἀλλοτρίῳ κανόνι εἰς τὰ ἕτοιμα καυχήσασθαι).  Only this Corinthian letter used the word ὑπερέκεινα, that means beyond.  Only the Pauline letters used this word καυχήσασθαι, that means to boast or exult proudly, and the word κανόνι, that means a rule, regulation, rule of conduct or doctrine, a measured defined area, or province.  Paul wanted to preach the gospel good news about Jesus Christ in lands beyond Corinth.  However, he did not want to intrude on the Christian apostolic work of others.  He wanted to use Corinth as his home base for further evangelical work, but without upsetting anyone else.  Do you intend to spread the good news of Jesus Christ?
