We were the first ones (2 Cor. 10:14)

“We were not overstepping

Our limits

When we reached you.

We were the first to come

All the way to you

With the good news gospel

Of Christ.”

Paul said that we were not overstepping our limits (εἰς ὑμᾶς ὑπερεκτείνομεν ἑαυτούς) when we reached you (οὐ γὰρ ὡς μὴ ἐφικνούμενοι εἰς ὑμᾶς).  We were the first to come all the way to you (ἄχρι γὰρ καὶ ὑμῶν ἐφθάσαμεν) with the good news gospel of Christ (ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ).  Only this Corinthian letter used this word ἐφικνούμενοι, that means to arrive upon, to reach as far as, and the word ὑπερεκτείνομεν, that means beyond measure, exceedingly, over-stretch, stretch out beyond the measure assigned to me.  Paul maintained that he had not overstepped or over reached his own limits when he came to Corinth.  He was the first one to come to Corinth with the good news about Jesus Christ and his gospel message.  Anyone else who was there was only causing confusion to these Corinthians. Were you ever the first at anything?
