Our weapons (2 Cor. 10:4)

“The weapons

Of our warfare

Are not merely human,

But they have divine power

To destroy strongholds.”

τὰ γὰρ ὅπλα τῆς στρατείας ἡμῶν οὐ σαρκικὰ ἀλλὰ δυνατὰ τῷ Θεῷ, λογισμοὺς καθαιροῦντες

Paul said that the weapons (τὰ γὰρ ὅπλα) of his warfare (τῆς στρατείας ἡμῶν) were not merely human weapons (οὐ σαρκικὰ), but they had divine power (ἀλλὰ δυνατὰ τῷ Θεῷ) to destroy (καθαιροῦντες) strongholds (λογισμοὺς).  Only the Pauline letters used this word στρατείας, that means a campaign, expedition, warfare, military service, or Christian warfare.  Only this Corinthian letter used this word καθαιροῦντες, that means a pulling down, razing, or destroying, and the word λογισμοὺς, that means a stronghold, a fortress, or strong defense.  Paul said that there was a Christian spiritual war going on.  However, his weapons for this war were not like other humans, since he had divine power on his side.  Thus, they would be able to destroy these evil fortresses out there.  Are you in a spiritual war?
