“He who has prepared us
For this very thing
Who has given us
As a guarantee.”
ὁ δὲ κατεργασάμενος ἡμᾶς εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο Θεός, ὁ δοὺς ἡμῖν τὸν ἀρραβῶνα τοῦ Πνεύματος.
Paul said the one who has prepared us (ὁ δὲ κατεργασάμενος ἡμᾶς) for this very thing (εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο) is God (Θεός), who has given us (ὁ δοὺς ἡμῖν) the Spirit (τοῦ Πνεύματος) as a guarantee (τὸν ἀρραβῶνα). Only the Pauline letters used this word κατεργασάμενος, that means to work out, achieve, or bring about, and the word ἀρραβῶνα, that means an earnest payment, an advance as a security, so that the whole would be paid afterwards. Paul said that God was the one who has prepared us with his Holy Spirit as a guarantee or first earnest payment of our future heavenly reward. Our guarantee from God to help prepare us for eternity is the Holy Spirit. Do you understand that the Holy Spirit is preparing us for eternity?
