I believe and then I speak (2 Cor. 4:13)

“Just as we have

The same spirit

Of faith

That is in accordance

With scripture.

‘I believed,

And so I spoke.’

We also believe,

And so we speak.”

Paul said that just as we have the same spirit of faith (ἔχοντες δὲ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πίστεως) that is in accordance with scripture (κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον).  “I believed (Ἐπίστευσα), and so I spoke (διὸ ἐλάλησα).”  We also believe (καὶ ἡμεῖς πιστεύομεν), and so we speak (διὸ καὶ λαλοῦμεν).  Paul cited Psalm 116:10, a hymn of thanksgiving, to show that his faith was in accordance with the scriptures.  “I kept my faith, even when I said, “I am greatly afflicted.”  Paul had kept his faith even though he admitted that he was greatly afflicted with many displeasures.  He had kept his faith in Jesus Christ.  Paul was going to say just like the psalmist.  He believed in Jesus Christ.  Now he was going to speak.  Do you speak out of conviction and belief?
