“We do not proclaim
But Jesus Christ
As your servants
For Jesus’ sake.”
οὐ γὰρ ἑαυτοὺς κηρύσσομεν ἀλλὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν Κύριον, ἑαυτοὺς δὲ δούλους ὑμῶν διὰ Ἰησοῦν.
Paul said that we do not proclaim ourselves (οὐ γὰρ ἑαυτοὺς κηρύσσομεν), but Jesus Christ (ἀλλὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν) as Lord (Κύριον), with ourselves as your servants (ἑαυτοὺς δὲ δούλους ὑμῶν) for Jesus’ sake (διὰ Ἰησοῦν). Paul maintained that he was not proclaiming or preaching about himself, but he was proclaiming Jesus Christ as the Lord. He and his fellow Christian preachers were their servants for the sake of Jesus Christ. There was no self-aggrandizement for Paul and his fellow preachers. They were the servants of the new Christians. Do you consider yourself a servant to other Christians?
