We are persecuted (2 Cor. 4:9)

“We are persecuted,

But not forsaken.

We are struck down,

But not destroyed.”

διωκόμενοι ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐγκαταλειπόμενοι, καταβαλλόμενοι ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἀπολλύμενοι,

Paul said that we are persecuted (διωκόμενοι), but not forsaken (ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐγκαταλειπόμενοι).  We are struck down (καταβαλλόμενοι), but not destroyed (ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἀπολλύμενοι).  Only the Pauline letters used this word καταβαλλόμενοι, that means to cast down or prostrate.  Paul continued with this Stoic comparison.  He was persecuted and struck down.  However, he was not forsaken or destroyed.  He kept up his Christian missionary work, despite all the difficulties that he encountered.  He would not be left alone or destroyed.  Have you ever felt abandoned or destroyed?
