The veil remains (2 Cor. 3:14)

“But their minds

Were hardened.

To this very present day,

When they hear

The reading

Of the old covenant,

That same veil

Is still there,

Not lifted,

Since only in Christ

Is it set aside.”

Paul said that their minds (τὰ νοήματα αὐτῶν) were hardened (ἀλλὰ ἐπωρώθη) to this very present day (ἄχρι γὰρ τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας), when they hear the reading of the old covenant (ἐπὶ τῇ ἀναγνώσει τῆς παλαιᾶς διαθήκης), that same veil (τὸ αὐτὸ κάλυμμα) is still there (μένει) and not lifted (μὴ ἀνακαλυπτόμενον), since only in Christ is it set aside (ὅτι ἐν Χριστῷ καταργεῖται).  Only this Corinthian letter used this word κάλυμμα that means a covering of head and face, or a veil, and the word νοήματα that means thought, purpose, the mind; the heart, the soul, or feelings, and the word ἀνακαλυπτόμενον, that means to unveil or uncover.  This unique Pauline vocabulary talked about the still present veil among the Israelites.  Thus, they still read the old covenant or testament with this veil that was not lifted.  Only with the coming of Jesus Christ will the veil be lifted.  Then, they will be able to read and understand the Hebrew biblical writings without any veil covering their understanding.  Do you have problems understanding things about God?
