“I did not mean to imply
That we lord it over your faith.
We will work with you
For your joy,
Because you stand firm
In your faith.”
οὐχ ὅτι κυριεύομεν ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως, ἀλλὰ συνεργοί ἐσμεν τῆς χαρᾶς ὑμῶν· τῇ γὰρ πίστει ἑστήκατε.
Paul said that I did not mean to imply that we lord it over (οὐχ ὅτι κυριεύομεν) your faith (ὑμῶν τῆς πίστεως). We will work with you (ἀλλὰ συνεργοί ἐσμεν) for your joy (τῆς χαρᾶς ὑμῶν), because you stand firm (ἑστήκατε) in your faith (τῇ γὰρ πίστει). Paul explicitly said that he was not lording it over them about their faith. He was a co-worker with them in their joyful faith. He knew that they stood firm in their Christian beliefs. Paul stressed co-operation rather than autocracy. He knew that they had a strong Christian belief system. Do you have a strong Christian belief system?
