The painful visit (2 Cor. 2:1)

“I made up my mind

Not to make you

Another painful visit.”

ἔκρινα δὲ ἐμαυτῷ τοῦτο, τὸ μὴ πάλιν ἐν λύπῃ πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐλθεῖν.

Paul said, “I made up my mind (ἔκρινα δὲ ἐμαυτῷ τοῦτο) not to make you another painful visit again (τὸ μὴ πάλιν ἐν λύπῃ πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐλθεῖν).”  Paul had decided that he was not going to go visit them again if it was going to be a grief filled visit like the last one.  Paul must have made a short but difficult visit to Corinth after the first letter but before this second letter.  He still intended to go there, but he was waiting for the right moment when things cooled down in Corinth.  Apparently, his last visit did not go well.  Have you ever made a painful visit?
