“As you have understood us
That we are your boast
Even as you are our boast
On the day of our Lord Jesus.”
Paul said. “As you have understood us (καθὼς καὶ ἐπέγνωτε ἡμᾶς) in part (ἀπὸ μέρους), that we are your boast (ὅτι καύχημα ὑμῶν ἐσμεν), even as (καθάπερ) you are our boast (καὶ ὑμεῖς ἡμῶν) on the day (ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ) of our Lord Jesus (τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ).” Only the Pauline letters used this word καύχημα, that means a boast or boasting, and the word καθάπερ, that means just as or even as. Paul then explained that they had at least understood a little bit if not all of what he was saying. Thus, he was able to boast about them when the final judgment day would come, the famous day of our Lord Jesus Christ, the end times. They could also boast on that day about Paul. Would you like to boast at the end times that you were saved?
