“As surely as God
Our word to you
Has not been
‘Yes and No!’”
πιστὸς δὲ ὁ Θεὸς ὅτι ὁ λόγος ἡμῶν ὁ πρὸς ὑμᾶς οὐκ ἔστιν Ναί καὶ Οὔ.
Paul then responded to his own questions. “As surely as God is faithful (πιστὸς δὲ ὁ Θεὸς), our word (ὅτι ὁ λόγος ἡμῶν) to you (ὁ πρὸς ὑμᾶς) has not been (οὐκ ἔστιν) ‘Yes! and No! (Ναί καὶ Οὔ).’” As usual, Paul responded to his own questions. He clearly stated that his words to them were not both yes and no. He was not deceptive or double minded. He was saying this based on God’s faithfulness. Paul was trying to be faithful to them as God was to him. He was not speaking out of both sides of his mouth. He was single minded in his concern for these Corinthian Christians. Are you deceptive in how you speak?
