“We write to you
Than what you can read
And also understand.
I hope you will understand this
Until the end.”
Paul said that we write to you nothing other (οὐ γὰρ ἄλλα γράφομεν ὑμῖν) than what you can read (ἀλλ’ ἢ ἃ ἀναγινώσκετε) and also understand (ἢ καὶ ἐπιγινώσκετε). I hope you (ἐλπίζω δὲ) will understand (ἐπιγνώσεσθε) this until the end or fully (ὅτι ἕως τέλους). Paul assumed a literate audience in Corinth. Thus, he was writing so that they could read and understand what he was writing. He hoped that they would read it all the way through and fully understand what he was talking about. Are you able to read and understand things written to you?
