Jesus appeared to five hundred people (1 Cor. 15:6)

“Then Jesus appeared

To more than five hundred brothers

At one time,

Most of whom are still alive,

Although some have died.”

Paul said that then Jesus appeared to more than five hundred believing brothers at one time (ἔπειτα ὤφθη ἐπάνω πεντακοσίοις ἀδελφοῖς ἐφάπαξ), most of whom are still alive (ἐξ ὧν οἱ πλείονες μένουσιν ἕως ἄρτι), although some have died (τινὲς δὲ ἐκοιμήθησαν). Only the Pauline letters used this word ἐφάπαξ, that means once for all, once, or at once.  Paul indicated that Jesus had appeared to 500 believing followers of Jesus Christ, but this is not mentioned elsewhere in the Greek biblical New Testament writings.  Paul noted that most of these 500 Christians were still alive, some twenty years later, but others had fallen asleep in the Lord or died.  Did you realize that there were many people who could have testified to the resurrection of Jesus Christ?
