Christ died for our sins (1 Cor. 15:3)

“I handed on to you

As of first importance

What I had in turn received,

That Christ died for our sins

In accordance

With the scriptures.”

Paul said that he handed on to them (παρέδωκα γὰρ ὑμῖν) as of first importance (ἐν πρώτοις) what he had in turn received (ὃ καὶ παρέλαβον), that Christ died for our sins (ὅτι Χριστὸς ἀπέθανεν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν) in accordance with the scriptures (κατὰ τὰς γραφάς).  Paul explained the early creedal belief of the Christians in the first half of the first century CE, something that was transmitted or handed on to him, not something that he had made up.  Using Judaic formulas, it was handed down to him and he had accepted this belief in Jesus Christ, like a student and a teacher.  This belief was simple enough with certain priorities.  First of all, Jesus Christ has died for our sins, according to the scriptures.  Paul did not indicate what specific biblical passages he was referring to.  Paul was passing on the most important basic belief system about Jesus Christ.  Do you accept the traditional teachings that have been handed down to you?
