In whatever state
Each was called,
There let him remain
ἕκαστος ἐν ᾧ ἐκλήθη, ἀδελφοί, ἐν τούτῳ μενέτω παρὰ Θεῷ.
Paul said. “Brother (ἀδελφοί)! In whatever state each was called (ἕκαστος ἐν ᾧ ἐκλήθη), there let him remain (ἐν τούτῳ μενέτω) with God (παρὰ Θεῷ).” Paul was insistent to his believing brothers in Corinth that they remain what they were when they got the call to follow Jesus Christ. Clearly, Paul said that there should not be a change in their social status, whether free or slave, married or unmarried. Stay the way you were, but with God within you.
