“Again,
Isaiah says.
‘The root of Jesse
Shall come!
The one who rises
To rule the gentiles!
In him
Shall the gentiles hope.’”
Paul said again (καὶ πάλιν) that Isaiah said (Ἡσαΐας λέγει). “The root of Jesse shall come (Ἔσται ἡ ῥίζα τοῦ Ἰεσσαί)! The one who rises (καὶ ὁ ἀνιστάμενος) to rule the gentiles (ἄρχειν ἐθνῶν)! In him (ἐπ’ αὐτῷ), shall the gentiles hope (ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν).” This time Paul cited the prophet Isaiah, chapter 11:10, that said “On that day, the root of Jesse, shall stand as a signal to the peoples. The nations shall inquire of him. His dwelling shall be glorious.” This new ideal king would be from the Davidic root of Jesse and stand as a signal to all people. Every country would inquire of him. He would be somewhat like King Solomon with his glorious palaces. Paul once again indicated that the root of Jesse would be a signal to all countries and nations. This Davidic descendant would be for all people, including the non-Jewish gentiles. Paul insisted on the Jewish roots of the savior for all people, especially the gentile non-Jewish people. Do you accept the Jewish roots of Jesus?
