“Even before they had been born
Or done anything
Good or bad,
μήπω γὰρ γεννηθέντων μηδὲ πραξάντων τι ἀγαθὸν ἢ φαῦλον, ἵνα ἡ κατ’ ἐκλογὴν πρόθεσις τοῦ Θεοῦ μένῃ,
Paul said even before they had been born (μήπω γὰρ γεννηθέντων) or done (πραξάντων) anything good (πραξάντων τι ἀγαθὸν) or bad (ἢ φαῦλον), God’s purpose (πρόθεσις τοῦ Θεοῦ) of election (κατ’ ἐκλογὴν) would continue (μένῃ). However, Paul did explain why Jacob was chosen over Esau. God had decided this before they were born, before they did anything good or bad. It was God’s choice and purpose. God had decided that Jacob would be the inheritor of the promise before he was born, while still in the womb. Thus, the trickery of Jacob was not that important. Do you believe that God takes care of the unborn children?
