We are sheep headed for slaughter (Rom 8:36)

“As it is written.

‘For your sake,

We are being killed

All day long.

We are regarded

As sheep

To be slaughtered.’”

καθὼς γέγραπται ὅτι Ἕνεκεν σοῦ θανατούμεθα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν, ἐλογίσθημεν ὡς πρόβατα σφαγῆς.

Paul then responded very strongly.  He said that it was written (καθὼς γέγραπται) that for your sake (Ἕνεκεν σοῦ), we are being killed (θανατούμεθα) all day long (ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν).  We are regarded (ἐλογίσθημεν) as sheep (ὡς πρόβατα) to be slaughtered (σφαγῆς).  Paul explicitly cited Psalm 44:22, that is a lament.  They had not forgotten the name of God, nor worshipped strange gods.  God would have known this if they had done it.  Nevertheless, they were being killed all day long, like sheep going to the slaughter.  The followers of Jesus would have to suffer.  They would be killed like sheep going to slaughter, a familiar metaphor for many Jewish people.  Do you consider yourself as sheep going to slaughter?
