The hymn of love (Rom 8:38-39)

“I am sure

That neither death,

Nor life,

Nor angels,

Nor rulers,

Nor things present,

Nor things to come,

Nor powers,

Nor height,

Nor depth,

Nor anything else

In all creation,

Will be able

To separate us

From the love of God

In Christ Jesus

Our Lord.”

Paul said that I am sure (πέπεισμαι γὰρ) that neither death (ὅτι οὔτε θάνατος), nor life (οὔτε ζωὴ), nor angels (οὔτε ἄγγελοι), nor rulers (οὔτε ἀρχαὶ), nor things present (οὔτε ἐνεστῶτα), nor things to come (οὔτε μέλλοντα), nor powers (οὔτε δυνάμεις), nor height (οὔτε ὕψωμα), nor depth (οὔτε βάθος), nor anything else in all creation (οὔτε τις κτίσις ἑτέρα), will be able to separate us (δυνήσεται ἡμᾶς χωρίσαι) from the love of God (ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγάπης τοῦ Θεοῦ) in Christ Jesus (τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ) our Lord (τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν).  Only the Pauline letters used these words ἐνεστῶτα, that means to place in, to be at hand, or present, and the word ὕψωμα, that means height, that which is lifted up, or presumption.  This is the hymn of love presented by Paul.  Perhaps this was used in some of their religious prayer gatherings.  Paul indicated that neither death, life, angels, rulers, the present or the future, as well the powers, the height or the depth, or anything in creation would separate them from the love of God in Christ Jesus, their lord.  The later phrase became an ending for many prayers.  Nothing would separate Paul and his followers of Jesus from the ἀγάπης or love of God that came through Jesus Christ, their Lord.  Once you had the love of God in Jesus Christ, everything else would fall into place.  Do you have the love of God in your life?
