“I am speaking
I am not lying.
By the Holy Spirit.”
Ἀλήθειαν λέγω ἐν Χριστῷ, οὐ ψεύδομαι, συνμαρτυρούσης μοι τῆς συνειδήσεώς μου ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ,
Paul said that he was speaking (λέγω) the truth (Ἀλήθειαν) in Christ (ἐν Χριστῷ). He was not lying (οὐ ψεύδομαι). His conscience (συνειδήσεώς μου) confirms or bears witness to him (συνμαρτυρούσης μοι) by the Holy Spirit (ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ). Only the Pauline letters used this word συνμαρτυρούσης, that means to testify or bear witness together with. Paul maintained that he was telling the truth, not lying. His conscience would confirm that this was true via the Holy Spirit. The proof of Paul’s truth was based on the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit! He would tell you that Paul is not telling lies, but only the truth. Do you tell the truth all the time?
