Creation and the children of God (Rom 8:21)

“The creation itself

Will be set free

From its bondage

To corruption.

It will have

The freedom

Of God’s glory,

As the children of God.”

Paul said that creation itself (διότι καὶ αὐτὴ ἡ κτίσις) will be set free (ἐλευθερωθήσεται) from its bondage (ἀπὸ τῆς δουλείας) to decay or corruption (τῆς φθορᾶς).  It will have the freedom (εἰς τὴν ἐλευθερίαν) of God’s glory (τῆς δόξης), as the children of God (τῶν τέκνων τοῦ Θεοῦ).  Only the Pauline letters used this word δουλείας, that means slavery or bondage.  Paul explained that this personalized creation will be set free from its human bondage to corruption and decay.  This anthropomorphic earthly creation will have the same glory as the children of God.  All creation, both sinful human creation and the decaying non-human creation, will have the glory of God.  The salvation of Jesus, the messiah Christ, was sweeping all mankind and everything in this world.  Creation would be glorious again.  No longer would it be subject to the whims of man.  Do you subject created things to your whims?
