We will not fall back into fear (Rom 8:15)

“You did not receive

A spirit of slavery

To fall back

Into fear again.

But you have received

A spirit of sonship.

We cry

Paul said that you did not receive (οὐ γὰρ ἐλάβετε) a spirit of slavery (πνεῦμα δουλείας) to fall back again (πάλιν) into fear (εἰς φόβον).  But you have received (ἀλλὰ ἐλάβετε) a spirit of sonship (πνεῦμα υἱοθεσίας). Thus, we cry (ἐν ᾧ κράζομεν) “Abba (Ἀββᾶ)!”, “Father (ὁ Πατήρ)!”  Only the Pauline letters used these word δουλείας, that means slavery or bondage, and υἱοθεσίας, that means adoption, or a son into the divine family.  Paul indicated that they had not received slavery to fall back into fear again.  Just the opposite, they have received a sonship that they can cry out to God in Aramaic “Abba” or in Greek “Father.”  They have become the adopted sons of God the Father, the sons of God, with all the divine prerogatives of eternal life.  Do you feel like you are an adopted child of God?
