Knowledge of sin comes from the law (Rom 3:20)

“No human being

Will be justified

In God’s sight

By deeds

Prescribed by the law.

The knowledge of sin

Through the law.”

διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ· διὰ γὰρ νόμου ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας.

Paul said that no human flesh or being would be justified (οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ) in God’s sight or before him (ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ·) by deeds or works prescribed by the law (διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου).  The knowledge of sin (ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας) comes through the law (διὰ γὰρ νόμου).  Here Paul cited Psalm 143:2, where the lamentation psalm of David wanted to have his prayer heard by the righteousness God, since no one living was righteous before him.  He wanted an answer because Yahweh was faithful and righteous.  He did not want Yahweh to judge him, the humble servant.  Paul concluded that no living person was righteous before Yahweh.  Once again, the sinfulness of humans was apparent.  Even the works of the law did not guarantee righteousness because the law exposes the sinfulness of man by telling him what not to do.  Do you know what sin is?
