All are accountable to God (Rom 3:19)

“Now we know

That whatever the law says

It speaks to those

Who are under the law.

Every mouth

May be silenced.

The whole world

May be held accountable

To God.”

Paul said that now we know (Οἴδαμεν δὲ) that whatever the law says (ὅτι ὅσα ὁ νόμος λέγει), it speaks (λαλεῖ) to those who are under the law (τοῖς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ).  Thus, every mouth (ἵνα πᾶν στόμα) may be silenced or stopped (φραγῇ).  The whole world (πᾶς ὁ κόσμος) must be held accountable (καὶ ὑπόδικος γένηται) to God (τῷ Θεῷ).  Only the Pauline letters used these words φραγῇ, that means to fence in, to stop, or close up, and the word ὑπόδικος, that means brought to trial, answerable to, liable, or under judgment.  Paul indicated that the Mosaic law spoke only to those who were under the law.  However, everyone should be silenced.  The whole world was still subject to God, even if they did not have the law to guide them.  All the wicked or evil people were still accountable before God.  Do you believe that you are accountable before God?
