You were instructed in the Law (Rom 2:18)

“You know

God’s will.

You determine

What is best

Because you were instructed

In the Law.”

καὶ γινώσκεις τὸ θέλημα καὶ δοκιμάζεις τὰ διαφέροντα κατηχούμενος ἐκ τοῦ νόμου,

Paul said that the Jews know (καὶ γινώσκεις) God’s will (τὸ θέλημα).  They determine or approve (καὶ δοκιμάζεις) what is best or the superior things (τὰ διαφέροντα) because they have been instructed (κατηχούμενος) in the Law (ἐκ τοῦ νόμου).  The Jews, on the other hand know God’s will.  They only have to determine what is the best or a better way to go based on their instructions from the Law.  The Jews have a written Mosaic Torah law to guide them in their decisions.  They do not have to rely on their heart or conscience.  They only have to determine how to apply the Law of Moses in their particular situation.  Do you have a hard time determining what to do in certain circumstances?
