I follow my ancestors (Acts 26:6)

“Now I stand here

On trial

On account of my hope

In the promise

Made by God

To our ancestors.”

καὶ νῦν ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι τῆς εἰς τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν ἐπαγγελίας γενομένης ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἕστηκα κρινόμενος,

The author of Acts indicated that Paul said that now he stood (ἕστηκα) here on trial or being judged (κρινόμενος) on account of his hope (καὶ νῦν ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι) in the promise (ἐπαγγελίας γενομένης) made by God (ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ) to our ancestors (τῆς εἰς τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν).  Paul maintained that he was being judged because of his hope in the promise that God had made to their common ancestors.  This promise was not the resurrection, but that of descendants and a Messiah.  Do you believe in the promises made to Paul’s Jewish ancestors?
