You are insulting the high priest (Acts 23:4)

“Those standing nearby said.

‘Do you dare to insult

God’s high priest?’”

οἱ δὲ παρεστῶτες εἶπαν Τὸν ἀρχιερέα τοῦ Θεοῦ λοιδορεῖς;

The author of Acts indicated that those standing nearby (οἱ δὲ παρεστῶτες) said (εἶπαν) to Paul how did he (Τὸν) dare to insult (λοιδορεῖς) God’s high priest (ἀρχιερέα τοῦ Θεοῦ)?  Immediately, some of the people at the Sanhedrin council wanted to know how Paul could possibly insult God’s chosen high priest, by calling him a violator of the law and a whitewashed wall.  This seemed like a legitimate question.  Have you ever insulted someone in authority?
