This man is a Roman citizen (Acts 22:26)

“When the centurion

Heard that,

He went

To the Roman commander.

He said to him.

‘What are you about to do?

This man is a Roman citizen.’”

The author of Acts indicated that when the centurion (δὲ ὁ ἑκατοντάρχης) heard (ἀκούσας) that, he went (προσελθὼν) to his Roman commander (τῷ χιλιάρχῳ).  He reported and said (ἀπήγγειλεν λέγων) to him did he know what he was about to do (Τί μέλλεις ποιεῖν)?  “This man is a Roman citizen (ὁ γὰρ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος Ῥωμαῖός ἐστιν).”  The centurion, the soldier who had one hundred troops under him, was alarmed when he heard that Paul said he was a Roman citizen.  He went to the Roman commander right away.  He then asked the tribune commander if he knew what he was about to do.  This man Paul that they had arrested and were about to whip was a Roman citizen.  What are the benefits of citizenship?
