Put him to death! (Acts 22:22)

“Up to this point,

They had listened

To Paul.

But then they shouted.

‘Away with such a person

From the earth!

He should not be allowed

To live.’”

The author of Acts indicated that up until this point or word about the gentiles (ἄχρι τούτου τοῦ λόγου), they had listened to Paul (Ἤκουον δὲ αὐτοῦ).  But then they shouted or lifted up their voices (καὶ ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν).  They said (λέγοντες), “Away (Αἶρε) with such a person (τὸν τοιοῦτον) from the earth (ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς)!  He should not be allowed (οὐ γὰρ καθῆκεν) to live (αὐτὸν ζῆν).”  They were willing to listen to Paul talk about all this stuff about Jesus and his Jewish followers, but once there was a mention about the gentiles, they got angry.  They wanted him dead.  As long as the Jesus question was a discussion among and about Jews, they were not upset.  However, once the gentiles got included in this conversation, these Jerusalem Jews would not have any of it.  They wanted Paul dead.  Have you ever wanted any person dead?
