“The crowd of people
‘Away with him!’”
ἠκολούθει γὰρ τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ λαοῦ κράζοντες Αἶρε αὐτόν.
The author of Acts indicated that the crowd of people (γὰρ τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ λαοῦ) that followed (ἠκολούθει) them kept shouting (κράζοντες), “Away with him (Αἶρε αὐτόν)!” The Jerusalem crowd followed Paul and shouted that that he should be killed. This was similar to Jesus before the crowd in Jerusalem before his crucifixion, as in Luke, chapter 23:18, using almost the same words. “The crowd all shouted out together (ἀνέκραγον δὲ πανπληθεὶ). They said that they wanted Jesus put away (λέγοντες Αἶρε τοῦτον).” Thus, Paul became like Jesus in that the Jews of Jerusalem want to see him dead. Does anyone want to see you dead?
