“Do what we tell you!
We have four men
Who are under a vow.”
τοῦτο οὖν ποίησον ὅ σοι λέγομεν· εἰσὶν ἡμῖν ἄνδρες τέσσαρες εὐχὴν ἔχοντες ἐφ’ ἑαυτῶν·
The author of Acts indicated that James and the Jerusalem Christian Jewish elders had a plan. They told Paul to do what they told him to do (τοῦτο οὖν ποίησον ὅ σοι λέγομεν). They had four men (εἰσὶν ἡμῖν ἄνδρες τέσσαρες) who were under a vow (εὐχὴν ἔχοντες ἐφ’ ἑαυτῶν). There were four men in Jerusalem who had taken a Nazarite vow, something that Paul had done in chapter 18:18. These early Jewish Christian leaders wanted Paul to listen to them. They had a plan so that Paul would work with these four men who had made a vow. Have you ever taken a vow?
