“But Peter
And John
Answered them.
‘Whether it is right
In the sight of God
To listen to you
Rather than to God,
You must judge.’”
The author of Acts indicated that Peter (ὁ δὲ Πέτρος) and John (καὶ Ἰωάνης) answered them (πρὸς αὐτούς). They said that they would have to judge (κρίνατε) whether it was right (Εἰ δίκαιόν ἐστιν) in the sight of God (ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ) to listen to them, the religious leaders (ὑμῶν ἀκούειν), rather than to God (μᾶλλον ἢ τοῦ Θεοῦ). You might guess what the response of Peter and John was going to be. Should they obey human religious authorities or God himself? Have you ever had to make a choice between human authorities or God?
