Threaten them again (Acts 4:21)

“After threatening them again,

They let them go.

They found

No way

To punish them,

Because of the people.

All of them

Praised God

For what had happened.”

The author of Acts indicated that after threatening them again (οἱ δὲ προσαπειλησάμενοι), the Jerusalem religious leaders let them go (ἀπέλυσαν αὐτούς).  Acts was the only Greek biblical writing that used this word προσαπειλησάμενοι, that means to threaten further or utter additional threats.  They found no way (μηδὲν εὑρίσκοντες) to punish them (τὸ πῶς κολάσωνται αὐτούς), because of the people (διὰ τὸν λαόν).  All of them praised God (ὅτι πάντες ἐδόξαζον τὸν Θεὸν) for what had happened (ἐπὶ τῷ γεγονότι).  These Jewish leaders threatened them again, before they released Peter and John.  They could not figure out a way to punish them, since these apostles had received widespread support among the Jewish community in Jerusalem.  Of course, Peter and John and their friends were happy and praised God.  Do you praise God when something good happens to you?
