Wonder and amazement (Acts 3:10)

“They recognized him

As the one

Who used to sit

And ask for alms

At the Beautiful Gate

Of the Temple.

They were filled

With wonder

And amazement

At what had happened

To him.”

The author of Acts concluded that the people recognized (ἐπεγίνωσκον) that this man (δὲ αὐτὸν) jumping around was the one who used to sit and ask for alms (ὅτι οὗτος ἦν ὁ πρὸς τὴν ἐλεημοσύνην καθήμενος) at the Beautiful Gate (ἐπὶ τῇ Ὡραίᾳ Πύλῃ) of the Temple (τοῦ ἱεροῦ).  They were filled (καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν) with wonder (θάμβους) and amazement (καὶ ἐκστάσεως) at what had happened to him (ἐπὶ τῷ συμβεβηκότι αὐτῷ).  This story of Peter curing the man who was lame from birth came to a conclusion.  All the people recognized that this man walking, leaping, and praising God was the same lame beggar who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple.  Thus, they were amazed and wondered at what had taken place.  Do you ever wonder about the power of God?
