Not for you to know (Acts 1:7)

“Jesus replied.

‘It is not for you

To know

The times

Or the periods

That the Father

Has set

By his own authority.’”

The author of Acts indicated that Jesus replied to them (εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς) that it was not for them to know (Οὐχ ὑμῶν ἐστιν γνῶναι) the times (χρόνους) or the specific period (ἢ καιροὺς) that the Father had set in place (οὓς ὁ Πατὴρ ἔθετο) by his own authority (ἐν τῇ ἰδίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ).  Jesus did not deny the future restoration of Israel, but only that they would not know when God, the Father, was going to do this.  In a certain sense, he wanted them to end their confused speculation about the future kingdom of God.  It was God’s plan, not their own.  The end times would come soon enough.  Are you worried about the end of the world?
